Sazerac

Ingredients

  • 60 ml Rye whiskey e.g. Rittenhouse, Bulleit Rye, Old Overholt
  • 1 piece Sugar cube
  • 3 dashes Peychaud's bitters
  • 1 barspoon Absinthe
  • Garnish Lemon peel

Preparation

  1. Rinse a chilled rocks glass with absinthe.
  2. Muddle sugar with bitters.
  3. Add whiskey.
  4. Stir with ice.
  5. Strain into prepared glass. Don't know how? Pour the drink through a strainer (or the built-in strainer on your shaker) to catch the ice and any solids.

Origin Story

The Sazerac is one of the oldest known cocktails, originating in New Orleans in the early 19th century. It was initially made with Cognac but later evolved to use rye whiskey, reflecting the city's rich cocktail culture.
